The notice speaks of midnight tonight, but for us this means 7PM AEDT (which is actually in 1 hour 15 minutes from the time of this post). So no launching from the website, no new areas, no dimensional portal, and no new event quests, just for the moment.

The v.83 Year of the Tiger update will be going live tonight. The much-anticipated version update is finally here! We will have scheduled maintenance, Monday, February 22, this update involves all game servers, and will last for approximately 10 hours. Please remember that once this maintenance is complete, players will be directed to the website to start MapleStory. You can read about starting MapleStory from the website here

Thanks Rob, the update slipped by me without my even realising it.

At the time of this post, the update had begun 4 hours and 51 minutes ago, which means there is just over 5 hours remaining (assuming no extensions). Please be advised that after this update, that attempting to initiate MapleStory in the usual way (using a desktop shortcut) will instead direct you to the Nexon website where the new login method should be revealed.

wat exactly is this update for?
Just to introduce that new tiger pet?

This is an old patch notice that was preparing the game for future upgrades, such as being able to to launch the game from the website.

The patch is referred to as "Year of the Tiger" because it was the patch that included the Chinese New Year events.
